Once upon a time, even before we said ‘I do’, we spoke about the concept of combining the things we each loved. Food and Art. A change of countries and several relocations later, we saw a large, somewhat derelict old building in Portree with a caved in glass roof. And decided on the spot that this was the bakery and gallery to be.
18 months after opening the Bakery and Food Shop Café, Skyeworks Gallery was launched.
Taking advantage of the new roof, with its clear panels, our natural light gallery takes up the entire 200 square meters above the bakery.
Skyeworks is home to the work of several local artists. It holds around three solo exhibitions, a summer exhibition and an annual charity exhibition each year.
In between the gallery is filled with a rotating exhibition of local artwork, designer clothing and beautiful handmade objects. Local makers, from potters to silversmiths, are well represented.
And as creativity abounds, Skyeworks also stocks a variety of beautiful maker’s materials.
Wool from Rowan and New Lanark, hand woven Tweed from a traditional home weaver on Harris, buttons, beads, canvases and feather cushion fillers, are all available.
