A peek at our week
The names of Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood are known across many a household due to the huge success of The Great British Bake Off (GBBO), we are of course fans of the programme, so it was a great pleasure for us to welcome the winner to the bakery, the winner of the Danish version that is!
The format of the GBBO has proved to be a hit around the world and recently we had the honour of hosting Tobias Hamann, the current winner of the Danish equivalent. We were delighted when we discovered that The Isle of Skye Baking Company had been chosen for the UK leg of a tv programme, which follows the Danish Bake Off champion travelling around the world, learning different traditional recipes from all over the globe.
Tobias spent two days learning the processes behind some of our favourite recipes, guided by Barry and under the watchful eyes of the tv crew which accompanied him. The new darling of Danish baking, was both enthusiastic and curious to find out the nuances of preparing traditional Scottish fare. The trip culminated in Tobias drawing on what he had learnt, while adding his own Scandanavian touch, to produce food inspired by Scottish ingredients yet with a surprising twist.
It was a real pleasure and privilege for us to be given the opportunity to take part in Tobias’ tv programme. Barry enjoyed the chance to share his knowledge and skills with someone who also has a real passion for baking, while our visitors seemed delighted at having the chance to visit the mysterious misty isle and sample our food.
Unfortunately we have been sworn to a vow of silence as to the recipes Tobias concocted, however with the programme scheduled to air in May on DR1, the Danish answer to the BBC, we will keep you posted. So stay tuned to our twitter feed and Facebook page for some clues in the near future!
