Cheese board? Try these Scottish Cheeses….

April 8, 2015 by Liza

If a hundred people were asked to name two countries they most commonly associated with cheese, the majority would be likely to answer France and Italy. And although those two nations are perhaps the outright leaders when it comes to tradition and variety, we strongly believe that there is no shortage of fantastic fromages available closer to home.

Highland fine

Highland Fine Cheeses, provide us with a rich, delicious and decadent selection of cheeses.

At the Isle of Skye Baking Company, our selection showcases a variety of some of the best cheeses produced in Scotland, which also tie in nicely with our hand-cut range of traditional Scottish oatcakes and homemade chutneys. Perfect for a dinner party or a picnic. From Caboc, an indulgent and decadent double cream cheese rolled in pinhead oatmeal, made by Highland Fine Cheeses in the Highlands, to the delectable, mellow and aromatic Strathdon Blue, and the Black Crowdie, also rolled in pinhead oatmeal but coated with crushed black peppercorns to provide a nice sharp contrast in flavours.

Inverloch

Inverloch Cheese: A wide array of fantastic mature cheddars brilliant served with our range of chutneys.

We also stock an array of fantastic mature cheddars produced on the Isle of Kintyre, by Inverloch, which include such flavours as Applesmoke, Claret, and Chives, to name just a few. Our focus is on sourcing a wide choice of cheeses, with the emphasis on high quality Scottish produce.

Connage

The award-winning Dunlop from Connage Dairy, a regular staple as part of our cheese platters.

Our range includes products sourced from Connage Highland Dairy, based in Inverness. Connnage produced their organic cheeses using milk from their own cows at the dairy. The delicious cheddars we stocked from Connage include the Dunlop mature cheddar, which was awarded Best Traditional British Cheese at the 2011 British Cheese awards, and the award-winning Cromal Farmhouse cheddar.

Devenick

Witty, fun and extremely tasty cheese from the Devenick Dairy in Banchory.

The irreverently playful Devenick Dairy, in Banchory, Aberdeenshire, are one of our newest suppliers and their excellent range of products, such as the brilliant, Fet Like, a colloquial adaptation of Feta, to the moist and tangy, Coos R Oot, means we have a great variety of eclectic flavours to offer visitors to the bakery.

Dunlop 2

Bespoke packaging and flavours to match, our selection from Dunlop Dairy in Ayrshire.

Dunlop Dairy, located in Ayrshire, has supplied us with a fantastic Scottish version of Brie, called Aiket, which is a local name for oakwood. Along with this we are also stocking their beautifully presented white soft cheese, Paddy’s Milestone and the tasty and robust, Bonnet, a full, hard goats’ cheese.

St Andrews

Traditional and experimental, St Andrews Farmhouse Cheese Company provides a fine choice of cheeses to grace our wide range of oatcakes.

St Andrews Farmhouse Cheese Company in Pittenweem in Fife, provides us with Anster Cheese. We sell the traditional favourite, the Mature Cheddar Style Farmhouse Cheese, with the more exotic Red Anster with added amaretto, fresh chives and fresh garlic.

Our hugely popular cheese platters act as the perfect platform for visitors to our café to sample these fantastic products. With five different cheese available per platter, alongside our outstanding oatcakes, what better way to sample the best Scotland has to offer!

We hope to see you soon!
