This is a freshly baked hello. And a brief but huge update.
This year has seen a number of changes at Skye Baking co. A change around of staff early in the year saw our man of words and great blogs leave us for a life of serious journalism with Am Paipear. Hence this is the first attempt at catching up with our followers between what has been a fantastic season and what alludes to be a crazy Christmas.
Behind the scenes Lilly has taken on one of the key baking roles, and Catherine is very firmly in charge of packaging, orders and production admin. This is aside from alternating to look after the café and customers, along side Kirstie, Jane and Christine.
Sam, as ever, is making and baking….currently in charge of production of a pallet of handmade oatcakes for Lincolnshire poacher. This is a massive annual challenge involving the hand cutting of around 40 000 oatcakes. Yes! Forty thousand!
This year The Bread Shed has been super busy with Gillian taking the reigns. Leaving Jeana to take on our newest venture Old Pier Gallery. Updates on these two soon.
Skyeworks Gallery has gorgeous new clothing in store (Bohemia, Heart and Nomads) and more gift ideas arriving daily.
And so, on to Christmas craziness. Barry will once again take all things bakery round the country to events in wonderful locations. See the events page for details. You can pre order hampers, for collection at any of them. We will be having a Christmas shopping and tasting evening, and details to be announced soon. Meanwhile we are working on new recipes, including sweetly spiced oatcakes for cheese and some gluten-free surprises.
The Isle of Skye Baking Co (Portree) and Skyeworks will be open right up to 31 Dec, and The Bread Shed and Old Pier Gallery will be on slightly reduced days after mid October.
